I want to tell you a story, about an amazing family that live in Houston, Texas. This family is generous, kind and loving, they are faithful and believe in the greater good, despite taking numerous beatings – they remain faithful and thankful for what they have in their lives.
This family is my in-laws but, I see them as family that I just got as a bonus from Mark. They have an amazing life doing my dream job, where they buy houses “in need of love” and fix them up and sell them again for a profit (i.e. house flipping).
Nevertheless a few years ago they where hit with a hurricane that left their own stunning home, destroyed by a flood. They lost family pictures and they lost sentimental items, yet they remained positive and within a short period of time they were able to pour love and energy back into their home – they had defeated their obstacle and come out on top.
Not too long after that, they were hit with another devastating flood, and again they lost so much – with broken hearts and a beaten spirit, they persevered on. Can you just imagine, not once but twice in a short period of time your house is damaged and you have to start everything from scratch. Yet they still remained strong, positive and conquered their second devastating challenge, without ever losing faith.
Time has pasted since those devastating days and they eventually found a new home. One that shouldn’t be affected by floods again. Once again they poured their heart and soul into making their dream home a reality – proudly showing us some of the completed work when we visited them last month. From the new pictures we received a few days ago, the house was beginning to look like something from a magazine spread.
Again, they were tested this past week, when days away from being completed and ready to move in, a simple light bulb in their garage caused absolute havoc. The garage burnt to the ground and caused damage to the exterior structure of their new home.
But here’s the thing, they remain faithful and even though they are currently in emotional turmoil, I believe they are strong enough to fight through. They are an example, which many of us should follow. No matter what challenges are thrown your way, we need to have faith and persevere through the tough times. Sometimes a few of us get tested a lot more than others, which seems unfair at the time but I think it’s because we need to be examples to others, He wants our stories to motivate others.
So to my US family I know this really sucks right now but, I hope you don’t mind me sharing your story of true faith, perseverance and dedication to never giving up. You never know who you are inspiring, so know that my thoughts, prayers and love are with all of you currently.
